Abstract:
Disability is a development issue which requires multi-sectorial coordination for the effective inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream development. Health and Family Welfare plays a critical role in the areas of primary and secondary prevention and rehabilitation closer to the community and necessary timely medical interventions closer to the community and affordable to poorer communities. It is important that rehabilitation services are implemented in close partnership with stakeholders at different levels such as people with disabilities, families, and community. It must be noted unless the health and rehabilitation services are relevant to Socio-Cultural-Geographic and Economic Conditions, and the acceptance of such services by the community cannot be guaranteed.
